San Juan County, NM to host food drive challenge

Local municipalities will partner with the ECHO Food Bank for the 10th annual San Juan County Food Drive Challenge.

The city of Aztec, city of Bloomfield, city of Farmington, town of Kirtland and San Juan County will compete to see which organization can collect the most canned food for people in need.

To the municipality to collect the most food goes the coveted Mr. Potato Head Trophy. The city of Aztec has held the trophy for six years in a row. Donations aid preparation of holiday boxes for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Collection points are set across San Juan County, typically in municipal buildings. Residents may also donate directly to ECHO Food Bank. Especially needed items are: peanut butter, jelly, canned fruits, cereal, cereal bars, pudding cups and holiday meal items.

Weigh-in and award of the trophy will take place at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 14 at ECHO Food Bank, 401 S. Commercial, Farmington.
