Records keep falling for the Fort Lewis College track and field team.
The Skyhawks saw a new school record set in the triple jump, as sophomore Emma Alaimo reached a distance of 11.45 meters to win the event Saturday at the Colorado State University-Pueblo Early Bird Open in Pueblo.
“We’ve been working on little things and it all came together today for Emma,” FLC assistant coach Maria Creech said in a news release.
Alaimo also placed fifth in the 200-meter event with a time of 26.73 seconds.
FLC finished eighth of 12 teams at the meet with 43.5 points, only two points back of Colorado College in seventh place.
University of Colorado-Colorado Springs won the women’s title with 153.5 points. CSU-Pueblo was second with 112 points.
Saylor Sargent placed second in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 22.29 seconds for the Skyhawks.
“Saylor redshirted during the cross-country season and has been very patient this season,” FLC head coach Joshua Coon said in the release. “She has a bright future here.”
Rebecca Bramley and Erin Renner placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 1,500. Bramley crossed the finish line in 4:58.82, while Renner finished in 5:04.03.
Grace Pinkley, a senior, became the first Skyhawk to compete in the 100-meter hurdles and placed sixth with a time of 19.3 seconds.
Victory Fagan placed seventh in the shot put with a mark of 10.46 meters, which was a personal record for the sophomore, and Katie Hawkins placed eighth in the pole vault after she cleared 2.95 meters.
“This was a great overall meet for out squad,” Coon said in the release. “The best attitude and fight I’ve seen overall. This is a great start to our outdoor season.”
FLC will be back in Pueblo for its next meet, which will be the CSU-Pueblo Spank Blasing Invitational March 30-31.
The FLC football team has a defensive line and strength and conditioning coach after the program announced Kohlton Tegeler will take over both duties on Monday.
Tegeler played the 2015 and 2016 seasons for the Skyhawks and graduated from FLC in 2017 with a degree in exercise science.
“I am very excited to be named the defensive line coach at my alma mater,” Tegeler said in a news release. “It is truly an honor. I played here and now being able to continue coaching under coach (Joe) Morris is awesome. I am ready to bring an exciting and energetic coaching style to the field and ready to learn and grow as a young coach here.”
As a player, Tegeler recorded 40 total tackles, four tackles for a loss and two sacks in 13 games.
