Skyhawks Scoreboard: Fort Lewis College volleyball picks up win in sweep

FLC men’s, women’s soccer fall 2-1

The Fort Lewis College volleyball team rolled to victory in straight sets with a 25-22, 26-24 and 25-23 win against Western State on Friday night in Gunnison.

Emily Dellenbach and Baily Longacre led the Skyhawks (7-6, 2-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Megan Graefe recorded 25 digs to keep Western State (1-13, 0-5) from getting rolling offensively.

Hannah Martinez turned in a balanced performance with nine digs, three kills and one ace.

FLC will wrap up a four-game road swing against Colorado Mesa (10-3, 4-1) on Saturday in Grand Junction.

Women’s soccer

UC-Colorado Springs 2, Fort Lewis College 1

Women’s soccerThe Fort Lewis College women’s soccer team was on the wrong end of a late scoring barrage in Friday’s match with the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and fell 2-1 at Dirks Field.

The match remained scoreless until the 78th minute when UCCS (5-3-0, 3-1-0 RMAC) found the goal with a shot from Hanna Parado from about 10 yards out.

Savannah Boarman was credited with the assist.

The Skyhawks (1-6-1, 1-4-0) answered quickly when Renee Terrell found Valerie Maestas on the right side of the box for a goal less than one minute after the UCCS goal.

A few minutes later, UCCS retook the lead when FLC allowed an own goal in the 82nd minute when a UCCS shot deflected off an FLC defender and ended up in the back of the net.

The game was delayed in the first half because of lightning in the Durango area.

FLC will host Western State (4-3-1, 3-1-0) at noon Sunday at Dirks Field.

Men’s soccer

Adams State 2, Fort Lewis College 1

Men’s soccerThe men’s soccer team of Fort Lewis College dug a two-goal hole and couldn’t escape in a 2-1 loss to Adams State on Friday in Alamosa.

Both Adams State (6-3-0, 3-2-0) goals came from the foot of Leo Barba. He scored in the 57th and 77th minutes.

Ryan Lee scored FLC’s lone goal a matter of seconds after Barba’s second goal. Raul Pescador was credited with the assist.

It was the first loss in RMAC play for the Skyhawks (2-3-4, 2-1-2), and first loss to Adams State in a little more than four years. The Grizzlies last beat FLC on Sept. 25, 2013.

FLC will host UCCS (2-5-1, 2-1-1) at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Dirks Field.
