Skyhawks Scoreboard: Fort Lewis College’s Summer Vigil ties for 12th in California

Kicker Raybon named player of the week

The Fort Lewis College women’s golf team wrapped up the fall portion of its season with a 13th-place finish at the California State University-San Marcos Fall Classic Tuesday in San Marcos, California.

The Skyhawks shot a team total of 671, one shot more than St. Martin’s University to fall out of the top 12.

CSU-San Marcos finished one-two at its home tournament. The program’s “B” team won the event with an 18-over 594, 11 shots clear of the school’s “A” team at 605. Fifteen teams competed.

After Monday’s first round, FLC’s Summer Vigil found herself in the top 10 after shooting a 3-over-par 75, which had her tied for ninth overall. She followed up Monday’s round with a 77 on Tuesday and finished tied for 12th overall with Cadence Hellmann of the University of Victory in Victory, British Columbia, Canada, at 8-over-par.

Sarah Garcia of CSU-San Marcos and Sabrina Virtusio of Sonoma State tied for first individually with 3-over 147s.

FLC’s Sophie Schwartz finished tied for 48th with a 166, Isabella Martinez was tied for 60th with a score of 170, Amanda Westric placed 74th with a 183 and Lauren Trujillo finished 76th with a 185.

The Skyhawks’ season will pick back up in the spring.

Football

Ben Raybon, the kicker for Fort Lewis College’s football team, was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s special teams player of the week.

The freshman from Arvada was perfect in the Skyhawks 44-35 win against South Dakota School of Mines and Technology on Saturday with three field goals and five extra points.

Raybon connected on field goals from 25, 44 and 46 yards.

On the season, Raybon has made 9-of-11 field goals and 23-of-25 extra points. His nine field goals are tied for first in the RMAC with Colorado State University-Pueblo’s Mitchell Carter.
