After 90 minutes of regulation time and 20 minutes of extra time, the Fort Lewis and Angelo State offenses walked off the soccer pitch shaking their heads.
Angelo State’s heads were probably shaking with more vigor as Britt Blomso and the Skyhawks defense did well to keep the home team off the scoreboard. FLC only had one shot on goal in the first 110 minutes and Britt Blomso stopped all six shots that came her way in the 0-0 tie. It was the freshman keeper’s second consecutive shutout
Considering that Fort Lewis was outshot 18-7 and only amassed one shot on the opposing keeper, a tie wasn’t all that bad.
“It was more exciting than how it sounded and both teams had great chances to score,” Fort Lewis head coach Jimmy Hall said in a phone interview with The Durango Herald. “We both played the same formation so we kind of picked each other apart. We both got a bit unlucky at times when we had chances but it was just a good battle between two good teams.”
The Skyhawks will stay on the road for an 11:30 a.m. match at Midwestern State on Sunday.

If the Fort Lewis College men’s soccer team wanted an early season test, they picked the right schedule.
Fort Lewis (0-3) played the No. 7 ranked team in the nation for the second time in a week on Friday. Last Friday, FLC lost the home opener to No. 7 Midwestern State 3-2. This Friday, it was No. 7 St. Edward’s that grounded the Skyhawks with a 3-0 shutout win.
Fort Lewis trailed 2-0 at halftime and struggled in the opening half as St. Edward’s (3-0) outshot the visitors 12-1 in the first 45 minutes. Grant Mobley’s goal gave the Hilltoppers the lead in the 21st minute. They added another goal 15 minutes later after a deflection went off a FLC player and into their own net.
The Skyhawks managed to get some chances in the second half, but Pablo Covarrublas’ 76th minute strike gave St. Edward’s a 3-0 lead and put the game away. FLC goalkeeper Jack Jordan made four saves in the loss.
Fort Lewis will have another road test at noon Sunday in San Antonio, Texas against St. Mary’s.
