Skyhawks’ shooters go ice cold in Pueblo

ThunderWolves bring the thunder against the FLC men’s team

It wasn’t a good night for Fort Lewis College basketball in Pueblo.

After a four-point loss for the cold-shooting Skyhawks’ women’s team, the FLC men’s basketball team struggled every bit as much with the ThunderWolves’ rims and lost 71-55 at CSU-Pueblo.

“They just outplayed us in every phase of the game,” FLC head coach Bob Hofman said.

FLC shot just 38 percent from the floor and 23 percent from 3.

Alex Herrera led the Skyhawks with 20 points, six blocks and six rebounds.

“Offensively and defensively, he had another great game,” Hofman said.

CSU-Pueblo (12-9, 10-7 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) outrebounded FLC (14-7, 11-6 RMAC) 47-30.

“It’s very tough to be successful when you get outrebounded that severely,” Hofman said. “They got a lot of second shots and were able to make their defense that much better.”

FLC will play at UC-Colorado Springs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. UCCS defeated Adams State 94-91 on Friday to leapfrog FLC into third in the RMAC standings.

“We need, obviously, to rebound better. You need to get the ball off the glass to start your offense,” Hofman said. “It’ll be a very tough game in their gym.”
