Durango School District 9-R officials are quoted in the Herald (March 26) as dismissing the high turnover of athletic directors and coaches due to “individual reasons, including the high time commitment, frequent travel, and low pay.” They seem to be either confused or deluded. Leaving for individual reasons would include resigning to start their own business, to stay at home to raise children or to pursue a Ph.D.

In this case, it appears they are leaving Durango 9-R for school districts where they are better appreciated and treated more fairly.
