Steamworks to serve Peanut Butter Cup Stout for Firkin Friday

Firkin Friday, Steamworks Brewing Co.’s monthly beer showcase will continue with the tapping of a “Peanut Butter Cup Stout” on Friday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m. at the brewpub, amid the 2016 Snowdown Winter Festival.

The Snowdown Waiter/Waitress Race takes place in the Steamworks parking lot beginning at 2 p.m., followed by a new event, Pantyhose Bowling at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Firkin Friday at Purgatory Resort has been moved to Friday, Feb. 10, where skiers and riders will enjoy their own Peanut Butter Cup Stout firkin, tapped at Purgy’s at 3 p.m. that day.

The Peanut Butter Cup Stout has a base of Steamworks’ Backside Stout, a Gold and Bronze award winner at the Great American Beer Festival. The Backside Stout is an oatmeal stout with flavors dominated by chocolate, roasted coffee and toffee.

A firkin is an old English unit of volume, typically a wooden cask equal to approximately one-quarter of a regular barrel, or nine/ten gallons. The word “firkin” is derived from the Middle Dutch word “vierdekijn,” which means “fourth” as in one-fourth the size. Firkin beer is unpasteurized and unfiltered and served at cellar temperature - cool but not cold.

Steamworks initiated its Firkin Fridays to introduce unusual, specialty craft beers to patrons, and augment its regular, award-winning offerings. Steamworks is located at 801 E. Second. Ave. in Durango. For more information, visit www.steamworksbrewing.com or call 259-9200.
