At Durango Mesa Park Foundation, we understand that parks, trails, and open spaces are essential to Durango’s quality of life, economy, and outdoor culture.
The extension of the dedicated sales tax – Ballot Issue 2A – for open space, parks and trails, and restricted capital improvements, is critical to maintaining and improving our outdoor spaces.
This is not a new tax – it’s an extension of funding that has supported our community since 2005.
The 2A funding source will help develop projects like Durango Mesa Park, Smart160, and many others, enhancing recreational opportunities and enriching the quality of life for Durango residents.
Durango Mesa Park Foundation has committed to donating Durango Mesa Park to the community, creating an unparalleled recreational and cultural regional resource.
The park was purchased entirely with private funding, and considerable private contributions will continue to support this public-private partnership. However, bringing the full vision to life requires long-term, sustainable funding.
Extending this tax is essential to ensuring the infrastructure, multi use trails, bike park, BMX Track, and other community focused amenities, can be developed and maintained for generations. Without it, we risk losing momentum on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shape Durango’s outdoor future.
We urge Durango voters to support 2A – because a strong parks and recreation system isn’t a luxury; it’s essential to our community’s health, economy, and future.
