Ted Compton won't let the Texas Crisis happen here

My name is Sadie Schafer. I was born and raised in Durango. I graduated from Animas High School and am now a sophomore at Fort Lewis College.

Early this semester I was studying remotely and living in Austin, Texas. I was one of the over 5 million people who had to go without power during the February Texas blackout. My friends and I were without any electricity for five days and we were required to boil all our drinking water for three days. At one point, we resorted to collecting scraps of wood from the alleys to burn in our fireplace and sleeping together right in front of that small fire to stay warm. I want to emphasize how stressful it was, both because we didn't know how long it would last and because we didn’t expect something this major to happen in what we consider a modern energy era.

My family has been friends with Ted Compton’s family since I was born and I am confident that Ted will do what is best for Durango. I am extremely passionate about renewable energy, but also realize how important it is to make smart choices about the reliability of our energy supply. I cannot imagine anyone I would trust more to help La Plata Electric Association make the right decisions than Ted.

If you get an LPEA electric bill, you will get a ballot around May 19. Please vote for Ted Compton in District 3.
