The theme for the Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County spring break camp was Fitnesspalooza. A variety of activities and programs were designed to engage club members in games and experiences to broaden skills and interests.
The highlight of the week was the daily participation of Fort Lewis College athletes who joined indoor and outdoor activities with the kids.
On Thursday, a panel presentation featured FLC athletes discussing the athlete-student balance with club kids, who asked questions about college majors, career paths, healthy lifestyle behaviors and the importance of smart choices to represent themselves and their colleges.
Special thanks to: Barney Hinkle, FLC athletic director; Jonathan Berzins, FLC compliance coordinator; and FLC athletes Aylssa, Brianna, Cassie, Devon, Hanna, Jordan, Julia, Kaitilyn, Katie, Kayla, Kellsi, Kelly, Kylie, Madelynne, McKenna, Olivia, Peter, Pilar, Robyn, Ryan, Sydney, Tanisha and Vivian.
These FLC athletes for were great role models for our club members and their enthusiasm for FLC is contagious.
Go Skyhawks!
Molly Chipman, Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County program director
After the incredible support I have received, emotional and financial, I need to take this time to thank this community.
I would like to start with my co-workers on-site with me that life-shattering day who assisted me with life-saving efforts prior to Durango Fire and Rescue’s arrival. I extend my sincerest thank you to DFR’s crew, Mercy Regional Medical Center’s staff, the flight crews and the staff at Children’s Hospital in Aurora for all of their life-saving efforts, as well.
Being born and raised in Durango, it has been amazing to feel the support of this community. Those who knew Kaliyah loved her. They knew how special she was not only to me but to every single life she touched.
I have to accept that there is no turning back, but the strength I feel from the response of this community makes it that much easier to put one foot in front of the other. I have three other children to keep my feet moving forward for and knowing that I am not alone makes this insanity a little less overwhelming.
Thank you to anyone who has donated to the Kaliyah Martinez Memorial fund at First National Bank. In anticipation of massive hospital bills, the account will remain open for the time being. Please be wary of fraudulent donation attempts. The memorial account is the only legitimate funding for my daughter’s hospital expenses.
Thank you, from the bottom of this father’s shattered heart.
