Our daily news is filled with stories of political unrest and turmoil, reflecting a country in deep despair. I think it’s important this holiday season to stop a moment and express gratitude for what we do have, an abundance of local government services that make our community such a great place to live.
Delivering those services are people who give much of themselves with little recognition for their contributions. I wish you were all together in a room, so I could look you in the eye and tell you personally, “Thank you, I appreciate the work you have done.”
From our city councilors to administrators, from the snowplow drivers to the wastewater management workers, from the police and sheriff officers to the librarians, the utility workers, the teachers, the motor vehicle workers, parks and recreation, planning department, trash collectors, firefighters, child care providers, emergency management staff and more.
I could go on for longer than my word limit allows here, so please consider yourself in this group if you work for the county or city.
Please know that although we the public may not ever get a chance to meet you, we see the results of your efforts that make our city and county able to function well.
Because of you, we thrive. Without you, chaos! May your holidays be full of appreciation of the gifts we do have.
