The Clubhouse Porch

Who says there aren’t any perks in a golf tournament? Not Ska.

Just ask those golfers who braved the two days of golf in last weekend’s Ska Brewing Hillcrest Club Championships. The perk ... a free car wash Sunday!

When I awoke Sunday and saw the rain and low-hanging clouds, I thought to myself, “Will they be able to pull this off?”

They did, and they pulled it off with a few stories to tell in the future, too. Kudos from top to soggy bottom as they “Got-R-Done!”

Let us not forget the 2nd Annual Birdie Fest at the Glacier Club on Sept. 5. A total of nine pros from our three area golf clubs will be competing to raise funds for the Adaptive Sports Association. These funds, in the form of pledges for each birdie recorded over a 54-hole excursion of the Glacier Club course, will go toward outdoor recreation programs for people with disabilities. You can pledge per birdie, donate a lump sum or become an individual sponsor. It is your choice. See your club pro, or call 259-0374.

Around the corner is the 39th annual First National Bank 1-2-3-4 Person Best Ball on Sept. 7. There is $500 in added prize purse, and 90-percent handicaps will be used for scoring. The sign-up sheet is in the Hillcrest Pro Shop or call 247-1499 for more information.

Let’s congratulate the 2013 Hillcrest Golf Club’s men’s and women’s champions: Kermitt Barrett and Aimee Fladt. Barrett shot a blistering 6-under-par opening round 65 on Saturday en route to a stellar 2-under 36-hole 140 total after the two days of action. Fladt cruised to victory with a low gross score of 168.
