Traffic lights and cones sprung up Wednesday along Camino del Rio near Natural Grocers and the site of a future hotel.
The lights are required to control traffic while commercial trucks work on the site of a 90-room hotel, said Lisa Schwantes, spokeswoman for Colorado Department of Transportation.
The lights will help control traffic through Thursday, she said.
It wasn’t clear if activity at the site Wednesday signaled the start of the new hotel’s construction. Calls to the city and a local engineer working on the project were not immediately returned.
The Durango Planning Commission voted to approve the building in April, and in October, the Design Review Board approved a slightly revised design. In the interim, a new project architect was hired to revise designs.
City officials have encouraged developers to embrace the river in the design. An extension of the Animas River Trail from Iris Park to the hotel is planned as part of the new building.
