In the second round of results in the Tuesday election of two members to the Bayfield School Board, incumbent Daniele Hillyer appears to have retained her seat, and a former Bayield High School counselor is ahead in the election for the second open position on the board.
Hillyer, who has served on the board for four years, received 839 votes in La Plata County as of 8:30 p.m., or 39.9 percent of the votes cast.
The election for the second open seat was tighter, with Peggy Whiteman receiving 674 votes, or 32 percent of ballots cast, while businessman Mark Haeussler garnered 588 votes, or almost 28 percent. Votes from western Archuleta County, which lies within the Bayfield School District, were not reported on Tuesday night.
