Nothing goes better with a delicious meal than a fine wine. And now, five local restaurants have been recognized for their dedication to providing the best wine selections for their diners.
Wine Spectator magazine gave its Award of Excellence to Eolus Bar & Dining, Ken & Sue’s, Mahogany Grille, Ore House and Seasons Rotisserie & Grill. All were particularly mentioned for their strength in California wines.
The magazine announced its 2014 award winners Tuesday. The five local dining establishments are among almost 3,750 in all 50 states and 80 countries and territories.
What does it take to make the list?
“They have a list of requirements that you have to submit in January,” said Karen Barger, owner of Seasons, which has made the list every year since 2003. “They look to see if your list is reflective of different countries and different wineries, how it corresponds with your food menu, do you have a lot of depth and price points.”
If Seasons is any reflection of the rest of the honorees, we have some fine fruit of the grape in Durango.
Barger estimates she carries wine from 700 different labels, with about 7,000 bottles currently in her wine cellar.
