Water dock serves many and should reopen

Recently, the Durango water dock was vandalized. A sign out front informs that it has been temperately closed while waiting for repairs. A few phone calls later, and I was informed that the expected reopening date was four weeks. After further investigations, I was told that the option of not reopening the water dock was being considered. A well-rehearsed list of bogus answers as to why the station should not reopen was given. This was performed by City Manager Ron LeBlanc.

There is a group of residents in Durango and La Plata County that depend on this facility. Both residential and business use depends on it. There has been a water dock in Durango since time began, for a reason. The current station is in a excellent central location. The facility is new and cost a lot of money to implement. It gets used every day by a lot of people. Often, you have to wait to fill. To even suggest that this facility to be closed is best described as being rude. People deserve convenient access to water. The city of Durango needs to hear this from all who feel this way. To lose such a valuable resource would be a shame.
