We need new councilors, not tax hikes

Hooray! Our incompetent City Council is being partially purged.

Some of these members of the council, that are no longer going to ruin our city, are people that I consider friends, as are other members that are yet to be purged. I think it should be clear now that just because we like certain people doesn’t make them capable of managing millions of our taxpayer dollars responsibly. Yes, they rewarded us with our pet projects, and those actions have cost our city dearly. Not what we needed! Let’s learn from previous mistakes.

We have an opportunity in the upcoming election to elect people that don’t agree that the way to fix government mismanagement is to raise taxes. Several of the current City Council candidates are against the tax increase; they believe our financial woes can be addressed and corrected by common-sense solutions. Let’s give them the chance to prove it. Here is a concept: Let’s elect the fiscally responsible people rather than the people we see in the coffee shops every morning.

Votes for people that don’t believe that more tax money is our solution, and votes against the needless tax increase make good sense for Durango.

The tax is not just 50 cents on a $100 purchase, it is part of the $8.40 we pay for every $100 we spend in our city.

How about this: NO to the tax increase. YES to the candidates that know we don’t need it.

Instead of kicking ourselves in the butt again because of whom we elected, let’s save ourselves the trouble.
