From what I know, the La Plata County has a standard practice of allowing its high-paid leadership to work remotely, thousands of miles from the office. So it is understandable that newly-elected County Commissioner, Clyde Church, believed it was OK to spend one month telecommuting (“
The County’s finance director, Diane Sorenson, who earns more than a county commissioner, has been working from her home in Minnesota for four months.
How much has the county spent on technology to support her home office? How much does she consume of county resources by working more than 1,000 miles away?
What is the cost for flying her back here when she needs to attend important meetings?
What happens if there is an emergency (flood, fire, etc.) and she is needed back here to make decisions in real time with others leaders in these situations?
As a person who pays for county salaries and expenses through my property taxes, I would like to have some answers to these questions.
