Regarding your editorial on “Syrian rebels” (Herald, Sept. 18), I think we all need to ask our president and members of Congress (of both parties) why our government has effectively granted al-Qaida a safe haven in Syria? Despite U.S. drone (and other military) attacks on al-Qaida and its affiliates worldwide since Sept. 11, 2001, there have been no U.S. attacks on very well-known and easily targeted al-Qaida terrorist groups openly operating in Syria for the last two years. Why not? These al-Qaida groups are killing innocent Syrians every day. Don’t we care about that?
