Colorado isn’t done with winter just yet.
A winter weather advisory is in effect from midnight Monday to 9 p.m. Tuesday for the high country in the San Juan Mountains around Durango.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, moderate to heavy snowfall will reach areas around Silverton, Hesperus, Rico, Ouray, Telluride and Lake City late Monday night.
The heaviest snow is expected to fall early Tuesday morning, with snow accumulations around 4 to 6 inches, the Weather Service said.
“The moderate to locally heavy snow will make travel difficult across many mountain passes,” forecasters said.
Durango can expect scattered rain showers early Tuesday, and possibly some snowflakes, with a forecast high temperature Tuesday of 52 degrees. High temperatures are expected to remain in the 50s through Thursday, and then could dip into the mid-40s on Friday and Saturday.
The wintry weather also is expected to return to the central Colorado mountains, with winter weather advisories for the Elk, Sawatch and Mosquito mountain ranges.
The advisories covers many mountain passes, including Coal Bank, Molas, Red Mountain, Lizard Head, Rabbit Ears, Vail, Fremont and Monarch.
Unsettled weather is expected to continue through the weekend, with a series of Pacific storms expected to move through Colorado.
