With officials’ pay, raise Medicaid payments

As lawmakers in Denver legislate (“Lawmakers OK with more pay for elected officials,” Herald, Jan. 29) to increase the salaries of elected statewide officers, including those at the county level, by 15 percent to 20 percent, they should also raise the abysmal reimbursement rate for Medicaid, which hasn’t been increased in many years.

By increasing payments for treating Medicaid patients, more doctors and other providers would be able to treat those on Medicaid – even if they were only able to break even on their expenses. This would help improve the accessibility for those on Medicaid subsidies.
