Yogurt-hauling semi flips near Hesperus

A semitrailer registered in Texas flipped on its side early Friday afternoon while driving northbound on Colorado Highway 140 south of Hesperus, the Colorado State Patrol reported.

The truck’s driver, Wade Mellon, 64, of Texas, received minor injuries and was cited for an unspecified violation, public information officer Trooper Josh Lewis said.

The accident occurred at mile marker 19, and the truck slid off into the shoulder area, but the road was blocked at times while rescue and tow crews worked at the scene. The northbound lane was blocked for several hours, Lewis said.

The scene was cleared by 9 p.m. after the almost 80,000-pound vehicle was removed and debris cleaned off the road. Lewis said cleaning the mess was labor-intensive.

There was no additional property damage reported, he said.
