It has come to my attention that Traci Smith, Sheriff Sean Smith’s wife, is working for Sean at the expense of the taxpayers.
I remember one of Smith’s campaign promises being that he would do away with the “good ole’ boy” mentality. I believe there isn’t a greater example of “good ole’ boy” mentality then to have your wife working for your administration.
Having the sheriff’s wife working under his command depletes the morale of both the officers and the other administrative employees. If the need for disciplinary action were to arise, it’s unreasonable to think such a close relationship would not influence the situation.
This seems to be an unethical decision made by our elected Sheriff. As a community member and concerned citizen, I would like this brought to the light. Questioning if this is true? Look at the La Plata County Sheriff’s website. All of the photos are uploaded by Traci Smith, Task Force Analyst.
I have read Smith’s statements regarding the county’s financial situation and the challenges that this department is facing. Overseeing a budget that impacts a close family member’s paycheck is, at minimum, a conflict of interest.
