Focus on the problems the homeless face

Instead of giving the homeless a bad rap, why don’t you focus on the problems we homeless people face?

We are trying our best to be able to just sustain what we have, which isn’t much, and we don’t need much. But the math is just plain against us in the first place.

Most places that rent apartments want a minimum of $1,000 per month around here. A lot of people then go on to talking points like move in costs, first and last months rent and security deposit.

But if you look at the bigger picture, no one will let you sign a lease unless you make at least three times the amount of said rent. If your rent is $1,000 per month and you need to make three times that amount, you need to make a bare minimum of $36,000 per year.

What’s the point in even trying to work full time if you can’t rest peaceably and shower when you need to if you don’t make around $20 per hour? The math is just plain outright against you. Where are there jobs that pay like that? And how do you get one?

Colorado Workforce Center has designed a system in which if you have any flaws it is more difficult than normal to find a job.

I’m partially disabled. It makes it very difficult. I’m also over 50 now, too. I’ve been in vocational rehabilitation twice in two different states. There is no money for retraining, and all they do is force the Workforce ideology down your throat again.

You need a perfect record, perfect history, perfect references, perfect credit, perfect driving record, perfect resume, perfect cover letter, perfect “action words and phrases” and a perfect attitude. You almost have to be Jesus Christ himself.

I’m sick of all the excuses people make to deride the homeless, and we get swept under the rug right and left.
