A review of the comprehensive plan document shows that traffic has been correctly identified as a big problem in the Rocket, Camino del Rio and North Main districts.
I am concerned that once again the plan will move ahead with a provision for highly increased densities and growth, and then punt the traffic issue to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
I believe it is irresponsible for the city to accommodate increased density and growth without having a viable plan in place for major expansion of capacity of the roadway as well as pedestrian improvements through these areas.
Expansion of the only viable north-south corridor now would be hell.
Waiting until there has been major growth of traffic through the densities contemplated by the new plan will create an impossible situation.
The minor median and lane revisions CDOT has made in recent years have helped, but these options have been used up.
Certain intersections are once again dangerous and almost impossible to navigate.
Are we in for an upper deck through town, as CDOT suggested 20 years ago?
Are buildings up against the sidewalks on Camino del Rio and North Main going to be condemned and torn down?
Let’s hear what CDOT has in mind for a plan and schedule before we set the ball rolling on more expansion of use.
Shouldn’t the public have the chance to know about and discuss, and perhaps even vote on, this plan before moving forward with an expanded comprehensive plan?
Let’s not “plan” ourselves into traffic gridlock.
