We have been fortunate to have Brookie

With elections for the City of Durango fast approaching, I write in support of the re-election of our former mayor and present councilman, Dean Brookie.

I have known Dean for several years, and have had the privilege to serve with him on the board for the Adult Education Center, for which he has served for over 10 years.

I know from first-hand experience that he has been a positive and indispensable force for the education center that exists to give kids a second chance to re-enter mainstream education.

He has also been an effective community leader by serving on the board for Habitat for Humanity for over 12 years and other essential non-profit corporations. He has given back to this community selflessly in ways too numerous to list here.

Those are not the only reasons why I support Dean. He is extremely bright, and has fought for responsible growth for our community. He does not believe in allowing developers to build anything they want anywhere they want.

He has also been active and progressive on issues pertaining to waste management and improvements and maintenance of our city parks. He has a proven track record of genuinely listening to the concerns of citizens and responding in their best interests.

We have been fortunate to have him on our city council. I will vote to keep him there.
