Animas Valley Grange will host a tour of the Farmer Training Program entitled “Growing Resilient Food and Farmers” from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Old Fort near Hesperus.
Elicia Wittlesey, Farmer Training Program manager, will lead the tour and discuss the farmer training programs, crops grown and season extension techniques, as well as the training required and the barriers beginning farmers face.
The tour will include the education garden, historic orchard and incubator fields. Attendees will be able to talk to farmers in the program. Participants may walk or drive between sites.
Those who wish to carpool should meet at the grange no later than 9:15 a.m.
