City should pay more attention to Three Springs

Dear Durango Politicos,

Remember us? It’s your distant relatives in Three Springs. Yeah, we are still in Durango City Limits, way out here by all the Farmington Hill construction.

Don’t you think it’s about time we received some benefits from our taxes? Direct representation would be a real nice first step. You know, designate us as a district and give us a City Council representative. Let’s divide Durango City Council into districts, each represented by an individual who lives in them. Be like the Board of County Comissioners!

Let’s elect the mayor directly, for a 4-year term, not just by default for a honorific 1-year seat.

We sure could use a safe connection to the Animas River Trail to enable us to safely ride our bikes downtown. It sure as hell wouldn’t be as expensive as the cottonwood underpass bridge. And, asking for a friend, why didn’t you fix the precarious 12th Street intersection instead?

And, how about some real Pickleball Courts, not just pipe dreams and petty administrative squabbles?

In short, I’m writing this to avoid being hissed at in some meeting and yeah, I’m annoyed by your neglect of our needs.

Maybe, Three Springs ought to stop paying city taxes.

Annoyed and frustrated in Three Springs,

Bill Frederick
