Letter writer wholly wrong about Israel

I often am astounded by letters to the editor but never more so than that from Yasmina Mickas (Herald, March 11) Mickas criticizes the U.S. foreign aid given to Israel and then makes a number of statements that simply are not true.

She writes that the U.S. has gone to war for Israel, which is not true. The U.S. has supplied war material to Israel but never has gone into conflict on its behalf.

She writes that: “Israel has violated every treaty it has ever made with its Arab neighbors.” Again not true. Only two “Arab neighbors,” despite many entreaties from Israel, ever have been willing to enter into a treaty with the Jewish state – Egypt and Jordan – and neither of those treaties ever has been broken. The other Arab states want Israel gone, dead and the Jews pushed into the ocean.

Israel constantly is berated for not giving up land and helping to create a Palestinian state. This is another lie.

Consider for a moment, Gaza. Israel pulled out of Gaza and turned it over to the so-called Palestinians for their own self-determination. What did Israel get in return? Hamas and 6,000 rockets.

Mickas refers to Netanyahu as a: “genocidal war criminal.” Really? I never have witnessed Israel do anything other than defend itself. Netanyahu and Israel do not send women and children with bombs attached into markets or onto buses to indiscriminately kill and maim as many people as possible.

Israel is our natural ally and is the only functioning democracy in the whole of the Middle East or North Africa, and we must continue to stand by and support Israel.
