Five of the seven Bayfield High School wrestlers that traveled to the Rocky Mountain Invitational on Saturday in Pagosa Springs placed.

Sam Westbrook recorded the Wolverines’ best finish of the day, winning the heavyweight bracket in a 16-team tournament.

“Sam was phenomenal,” BHS head coach Todd McMenimen said. “He worked hard coming back from the break and looked really dominant against these heavyweights.”

Colter McMenimen was second at 145 pounds, losing 7-3 to a defending state champion in the finals. Garrett Beebe took third at 106 pounds. Joey Sandrey and Cody Speece finished eighth at 113 and 120 pounds, respectively.

“I saw a lot from the kids as far as trying the things we’ve been working on the last couple of weeks in the room,” Todd McMenimen said.
