Voting does matter and makes a difference

In the face of chaos, turmoil and fear for the future, many of you ask – but what can I or one person do? I don’t have enough time in my day to work, raise my family and keep my own personal home together. A statement so true to many and lived by most of us.

There are over 100,000 local elections nationwide in 2025. You don’t have to wait for midterms to make choices that impact our futures.

Your local elected officials – school board, city council, judges, county clerk, board members in organizations such as LPEA, along with state level officials – governor, attorney general, secretary of state, etc. – are very important. These people are the ones who determine if our community or state will resist or cave to the unlawful demands of a federal government that is ignoring the constitution and courts of law.

They will make a difference in who we are and where we stand. Know the candidates, who they are, what they say and the actions they have taken.

Voting does matter and does make a difference. Do you realize the current federal administration won with only 1/3 of the American vote? A very small percentage participated in Durango’s recent local election. You can take one small step and start or continue to vote with knowledge of who you are voting for.

Be informed, take your one small step. Small steps turn into strides. May we all walk together toward a better tomorrow.
