Where have all the Republicans gone?

Never thought I’d say this, but I miss Republicans.

Generally, I have disagreed with Republican platforms and beliefs, but we could disagree and have rational discussions: You think that minimum wage is a handout, I think it is a way to help working people pay their way; I think the national debt is out of hand, and hey, you do too (it’s who to blame that is the disagreement); you think poor people should work harder, I think rich people should pay their taxes; you think abortion is wrong, I think it is a personal choice.

We could go on and on, take turns buying beers, and part friends. Now, I have a hard time recognizing people who call themselves conservative or Republican. Some conservatives who espouse family values have had more wives and mistresses than I’ve had cars in 70-plus years.

The Republican Party has become a group of people who simply agree with everything Trump says or does, even when he contradicts himself, sometimes in the same rant. They defend him as a victim, as he victimizes anyone who disagrees with him or fails to pledge fealty.

I am not qualified to speculate about anyone else’s IQ, as he does constantly, but from what I’ve seen, he never hears facts. Quivering sycophants tell him only what he wants to hear. And the unqualified people who “earned” their jobs from him, either by financial tribute or insincere, effusive praise, get to do whatever they want.

I miss Republicans.
