Attacks on my husband are undignified

I take offense to the underhanded attempts to demean my husband’s character last week by Leah Karotkin (“Local candidates’ bad behavior annoys,” Herald, Aug. 21) and Laurie Meininger (“Misogyny and politicking at rodeo: Stop,” Herald, Aug. 16). Their very misleading insinuations couldn’t be further from the truth!

Colton Black is the most genuine, honest and caring man that I know! He has the character, integrity and financial experience we need to fix the current issues in the treasurer’s office!

A few years ago, we purchased property just southwest of Durango to start our own ranch. We started with raw land and built everything from the ground up. We know firsthand how expensive land, farming facilities and housing can be in La Plata County, and because of Colton’s financial knowledge, we were able to get the most out of our dollars to make it work.

He is the hardest-working person I know, and always tackles a problem to ensure it is done correctly and efficiently. He is also an amazing father, and always makes time for our little boy. He cares deeply about the future of La Plata County and our young people.

With his financial expertise, he will more efficiently maximize our tax dollars, help save families money by keeping taxes low and help keep important county services and programs off the chopping block.
