McHenry a steady, responsible leader

After studying all of the candidates, I have decided that David McHenry is uniquely qualified to serve on the Durango City Council. He was part of the team responsible for large construction projects and infrastructure projects at Fort Lewis College. He has done extensive work designing recreational facilities for the U.S. Forest Service and state of Colorado. And he has devoted countless hours working to preserve the beauty and character of Durango’s established neighborhoods.

It is the task of the council to set policy that strikes an appropriate balance based on input from competing interests. Too often, public officials appear to listen to constituents’ concerns but then proceed with their own agenda. We need a truly independent voice on council who will put first the best interests of the entire community.

McHenry is that voice. A registered independent, he does not belong to any political party. He has no ties to business, real estate development or vacation rentals. He knows from first-hand experience how difficult it can be to try to make ends meet because of the high cost of living in Durango. As a longtime resident, he also understands that people are drawn here because it is a beautiful place to live, work and play.

McHenry is smart, well-informed and deeply committed to serving the larger community. He is fiscally conservative, socially and environmentally conscious. These are all qualities that will help him provide steady, responsible leadership. That is why David McHenry is getting my vote.
