Waste Management purchased Baker Sanitation in 2016, saying it would be a seamless transition, and that there will be no changes to service, rates or schedules at this time.
“We are excited to welcome our newest customers,” they said.
Yet, we were not able to keep our bear-proof trash cans from Baker because they do not fit WM trucks. My neighbor watched as WM tried to empty his Baker can into their truck and the trash can fell into the truck!
That can was replaced with a bear- proof can from WM. I called WM to see about getting my can replaced before it disappeared into their truck, but WM told me that they no longer offer bear-proof cans for our area.
Now the bears have gotten into multiple cans, and the neighbors, not WM, are cleaning it up!
WM has over $5 billion in profits and refuses to offer bear-proof cans in bear country. This company should be heavily fined by the state for killing wildlife.
Maybe the CEOs of WM could donate a few of their millions to do the right thing. Maybe someone at the Herald will write a story about this?
