Letters: On the current lack of Christian charity

Most self-professed Christians I know personally are good people; caring, generous, thoughtful, and generally tolerant.

However, speaking with other acquaintances who identify as Christians, and reading statements put forth by evangelicals who also identify as Christian, listening to their dismissal of a livable wage, homelessness, and access to health care as pandering to the shiftless, an addendum to Matthew, chapter 5, verse 7, was revealed to me:

Matthew 5:7 (addendum) But helpeth not the poor or needy, lest through thine benevolent acts they find succor and satisfaction, which shalt leadeth to flooding thine abode with poor from distant lands.
