Rep. Tipton supports fact-based opinion

I am writing in response to Steve Krest’s letter (Herald, Mar. 5) with the headline, “Tipton only interested in negative events,” in which he references one of Congressman Tipton’s newsletters.

I am concerned about the use of quotes in the letter, as what is in the quotes, “I want to hear only the negative. I’ll be your voice in Congress. I have a special electronic address set up called ‘Cut the Code,’” was written nowhere in any newsletter the Congressman sent.

The two newsletters sent, that could be to what Mr. Krest’s letter refers, can be read at tipton.house.gov/recent-newsletters-regulatory-reform. You can see that Mr. Krest has made a false claim.

Although Rep. Tipton respects the ability of constituents to submit letters to the editor to our local papers that express their opinion about the Congressman’s work, he objects to being misquoted in a letter, especially from a written source.
