Some ideas to make water bowls safer

After reading your article (Herald, May 12) about downtown merchants’ dog water bowls and the pedestrian hazard they may cause, I had some ideas.

A bowl placed in an open foyer entrance to a business could have tall, red, flexible plastic poles, beside the bowl on the entrance and exit side. Things like aluminum pie tins or paper plastic lined containers could be used. These would collapse if someone stepped on them, rather than causing an ankle twist or a fall.

There may be additional ideas that would provide Downtown water for dogs and pedestrian safety at very reasonable cost.
