My family would like to express our gratitude to the crew, staff and first responders who kindly and efficiently navigated the passengers on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train that was trapped in the sudden mudslide Tuesday, July 17, for many hours.
What was supposed to have been a three-and-a-half-hour return trip from Silverton to Durango turned into over seven hours. As we waited in the cold rainy conditions after being confronted with an impassable mudslide on the tracks, the crew kept us informed, fed and protected all those hours in a very professional manor.
No injuries were reported and every one was returned safely to Durango. What could have become a much more dangerous situation was dealt with with wise decisions and care. We thank God for all of you and for your hard work. Definitely a very memorable trip!
