Stephen Colbert and his right to free speech is in the news again, which is appropriate because the best choice for seeing what is happening in our country and the perspective from which it should be seen is late night television. Yes, Colbert, Kimmel, SNL, Stewart (TDS), Oliver, Roy Wood Jr. et al. Wait, they’re liberals. No, they’re comedians. They ridicule the ridiculous regardless – ever seen Myers’ hilarious, spot-on Biden impression or Jon Stewart’s frequent eviscerations of Chuck Shumer’s fecklessness? MAGA just provides so much more ridiculousness.
American voters gave the world’s most important job to an adjudicated sexual predator whose resume includes six bankruptcies, a plethora of failed enterprises, 34 felony convictions, two impeachments, an insurrection and a level of ignorance that can only be described as encyclopedic. He did, however, get a lifetime achievement award from the NAACP. Not that one – the National Association for the Advancement of Crap Public Speaking – worst orator ever. What did we expect? Add on the cadre of doofuses (doofi?) helping him destroy the Constitution and our country. Unqualified, incompetent, unserious cockwombles (Hegseth, Patel, RFK, JD) and henwombles (Bondi, Noem, Gabbard) have shown us how much we need comedy and satire because this sad, terrible joke is, ultimately, on us. More importantly, we need people who speak truth to stupid. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
