Overtimes have not been kind to the Bayfeld High School boys basketball team this week.
Two days after the Wolverines lost a double-overtime contest at Montezuma-Cortez, BHS was in its home gym and had a bit longer of a wait for Saturday’s game against Alamosa after the girls game between the Wolverines and Mean Moose went to two overtimes
Then, the Alamosa and BHS boys also went an extra five minutes in yet another overtime game. The Mean Moose (8-4, 5-2 3A Intermountain League) would prevail 50-47 by outscoring the Wolverines 7-4 in the overtime.
Dylan Mendoza led Alamosa with 16 points, while Damian Orozco and Kane Absmeier each had 10.
Bayfield (4-6, 2-5 IML) was led by 21 points from Crosby Edwards, while Landon Kennedy scored 10.
BHS led 14-10 after one quarter, but a huge second quarter from Alamosa saw the visitors take a 24-20 lead into halftime.
With playoff hopes likely dashed by the two overtime losses, BHS will close the regular season next week with a 7 p.m. Tuesday home game against Dove Creek before a road trip to see Monte Vista and Centauri.
