I decided to pay our latest Colorado Vehicle License Renewal online at mydmv.colorado.gov as shown on the postcard we received from the La Plata Clerk and Recorder’s office. What a nightmare that turned out to be.
If you are not very, very careful, you will be directed to a site called getcarregistration.org! And you won’t be paying your bill – instead they have already charged my credit card twice for $3.99 and $19.99 – totally unauthorized charges that have nothing to do with my actual bill.
When I went on their website to protest, there is no way to actually contact them. My credit card company alerted me than I might have been scammed, so these people are on the radar, but that in itself is another problem. If you protest the charges, their solution is to cancel your card and send you a new one. Then you have to go to every site you use that card on to pay bills and change the number – arrgh! Just a heads up.
The Colorado state office is trying to fix the problem but not having a lot of luck. Sounds like whack-a-mole.
