What a surprise, The Durango Herald endorses Sean Smith for sheriff (Oct. 15). Let me remind all of you this is the same Sean Smith who leaked private emails from Sheriff Schirard to the same Durango Herald a few months ago, which the paper printed. It is also the same Sean Smith who tried to use an unfounded 25-year-old domestic violence case as a smear tactic against our Sheriff Duke Schirard. Again, The Durango Herald tried to help Smith accomplish these low-down, dirty politics against a proven, respectable Sheriff Duke Schirard.
So the Herald’s endorsement of Smith should be no surprise. Ellen Roberts endorsed Sheriff Duke Schirard for no other reason than his qualifications and proven track record (Letters, Herald, Oct. 8). I put a lot more weight and credit in Roberts’ endorsement of Sheriff Schirard than I do in the Herald. The Herald supports dirty politics and a politician willing to do anything to win.
I support a career lawman whose track record has proved he has the integrity to take care of this county. I vote to boycott the Herald and re-elect a proven dedicated Sheriff Duke Schirard, who will continue to move us forward for the next four years.
