Competence, process are Obama’s problems

David Ryan (Letters, Herald, Oct. 10) implies that the government shutdown occurred because of prejudice against a black, nonblue-eyed president, which, if true, means President Barack Obama never would have been elected in the first place.

Has Ryan considered that the reason for obstacles to certain of Obama’s proposals – i.e. Obamacare – have more to do with problems in the proposals themselves and with Obama’s refusal to negotiate with those who are suggesting more reasonable and logical options, especially to the impending budget negotiations and controlling out-of-control spending?

It’s outrageous and ignorant to cry “racism” every time President Obama is challenged. Color is not the issue; competence and understanding the democratic process are.
