Cuckoo’s restaurant closed indefinitely

Waterline break has popular downtown eatery shuttered
Customers watch a Denver Broncos game in 2010 at Cuckoo’s Chicken House and Waterin’ Hole, a popular downtown restaurant that is closed indefinitely after a waterline break.

Cuckoo’s Chicken House & Waterin’ Hole, the popular eatery in downtown Durango, is closed indefinitely as the result of a waterline break.

An answering machine for the business states: “Unfortunately, due to a waterline break, Cuckoo’s will be closed until further notice. ... We’ll reopen as soon as we are able.”

A sign posted outside the business also indicates the closure.

Cuckoo’s opened in 1999 at 128 East College Drive, next to the Animas City Theatre, and has since gained a local following for its chicken wings and multiple TVs for sports events.

The owners, Chris and Michele Redding, could not immediately be reached for comment.

It was unclear Wednesday if the Animas City Theatre, also owned by the Reddings and connected to Cuckoo’s, is affected by the waterline break.
