DHS baseball one victory closer to playoffs

One step closer to the postseason, plus a little extra.

The Durango High School baseball team got 15 hits and committed only one error to beat Southwestern League rival Montezuma-Cortez 13-4 on Tuesday in Cortez.

“Good win for us,” DHS head coach Rob Coddington said. “Glad we went over there and took care of business.”

Jeremy Szura pitched three innings, giving up three runs on three hits, while also going 2-for-4 with a double at the plate.

Ben Wiley took over on the mound for the final four, giving up one run and five hits to go with six strikeouts and a walk.

Connor Dugan went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored, Tyler Worley was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, Cole Dunegan went 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Sean Blanchard added two runs on two hits and an RBI for the Demons.

Durango (9-9, 4-5 SWL) will wrap up its regular season against Grand Junction at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at DHS.
