East by Southwest to open late December

Greasy rags in a dryer spontaneously combusted and started a fire above East by Southwest in early November. The fire was contained, but smoke damage means the restaurant is under repairs. The reopening of the original East by Southwest is tentatively scheduled for the fourth week in December.

Folks jonesing for East by Southwest’s hibiscus margaritas, sashimi tiradito or tea-smoked duck are going to have to wait a little longer.

Owner Hydi Verduzco said repairs from smoke damage are probably going to take a few more weeks, with a reopening of the original restaurant tentatively scheduled for the fourth week in December. It will probably take a little longer to reopen the adjoining Golden Triangle, she said. The damage occurred in early November after greasy rags combusted inside a dryer. While the fire was contained to the dryer, smoke seriously damaged both restaurants.

East by Southwest is still selling gift cards by phone for the holidays and mailing them out, Verduzco said.
