A Face in the Crowd now is a face at Fort Lewis College.
FLC football and head coach John L. Smith announced the signing of Anchorage, Alaska, student-athlete Viliamu Aukusitino, who appeared in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd after being named the Alaska Player of the Year.
“Amu is a special athlete,” Smith said in a news release. “We’ll start him out as a running back, but he’ll probably play both sides of the ball.”
Aukusitino played basketball and football for the Cougars at Service High. He was the point guard on the basketball team, and he played cornerback, quarterback, running back, both safety positions and wide receiver in high school, where he helped the Cougars win a state title his junior season. He was named the Offensive Player of the Year that season.
As a high school upperclassman, he was first-team all-state on both defense and offense.
Aukusitino joins the 17 other student-athletes previously announced on national signing day.
“This is a great start,” Smith said. “We will continue to recruit from now through the end of summer. I would expect the size of this class to double before we’re done.”
