Worksite Wellness 101 training Tuesday

The Workplace Health & Wellness Ambassador Training “Worksite Wellness 101” will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at First National Bank, 259 W. Ninth St.

The free workshop will explain how to create a culture of health in small business. A complimentary lunch will be served at noon. Health Links Colorado trains worksite wellness leaders across the state to help businesses support the health, safety and well-being of employees.

Health Links advises, certifies and connects businesses to local wellness resources that provide the tools and services for delivering health and wellness in the workplace.

Health Links has partnered with Nicola St. Mary and Happy Healthy Employees Program, a small start-up health wellness vendor in Durango.

Starting in March, Health Links and Happy Healthy Employees Program will work together to bring seed funding, expert advising and Healthy Business Certification to the Southwest Region.

Small businesses with fewer than 50 employees are eligible to apply for seed funding and free advising to assist in assessing and designing healthy workplaces.

Heart Safe offering CPR classes

Heart Safe La Plata, a local nonprofit organization, will host a CPR/AED class from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday.

A CPR Pro class will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. March 12.

The classes will be held at Durango Fire Protection District’s Station 1, 142 Sheppard Drive.

February is dental health month for kids

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month.

Tips for good dental health include:

Children should be seen by a dentist by age 1.

Parents should brush their and their children’s teeth each morning and night.

Soda, sweet drinks and candy can cause cavities and should be limited.

Mercy to offer prediabetes class

Mercy Regional Medical Center will offer a free class to people with prediabetes from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday in Suite 140 of the medical office building.

People diagnosed with prediabetes are at a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Effectively managing prediabetes can help prevent diabetes.

Sheena Carswell and Marge Morris will lead the class.

Attendees will learn how to manage prediabetes and prevent the onset of Type 2 diabetes.
